I have come to the decision that Real-Time Designs has lived to the end of its days as my skill set has moved passed just designing graphics, logos, posters, and websites. A new name and entity is needed for my marketing skill set, and the name is………..Hang Ten Creative.
Here is the logo I have created, what do think of the name and the design?

As I am nearing my BCIT graduation in the Marketing Communications Management diploma program, I am now competent at creating and implementing full integrated marketing plans for companies including advertising campaigns for print and web, Direct and Interactive marketing for mail and web, Sales promotion campaigns including contests, coupons, and trade promotions, and I can create strong media releases for public relations efforts.
Along with this I have a strong Internet marketing background designing websites, promoting them through SEO and paid advertising campaigns. With analytics tracking, budgeting and ROI measurement a good campaign can be successful.
Top it off with with social media to gain customer support and a strong brand design and positioning plan you have a fully integrated marketing campaign.
So I have decided to create a new marketing freelance company that I intend to run as a side business to create integrated marketing plans, ad design, and internet marketing campaigns to business’ in Vancouver and abroad. This is only a side business to supplement income as I would like to work for a fun integrated marketing company to be a part of something bigger.
In the meantime Real-Time Designs has evolved into Hang Ten Creative, I think I like it!

As I was studying marketing and advertising at BCIT I designed these promotional pieces for The Body Exchange in Vancouver for a little extra cash through my freelance business Real-Time Designs. It came right at the perfect point when I had just finished learning about sales promotion techniques such as coupons and customer continuity programs. I learnt that it is important to keep the branding and residual value strong, having a call to action, and put in measures to reduce fraud. I love how these pieces turned out, so did the client which is even more important.

As the new year started for the BCIT Marketing Association, I was hoping to get five or six dedicated individuals to join the Advertising Committee. Instead I got an overwhelming 20 students that wanted to join and create advertising and branding designs. I couldn’t believe it, the first thing I thought was what would I get everyone to do? I rolled with it thinking some of them would disappear after the first couple meetings, but that didn’t happen, they all stayed until the end of the semester helping brainstorm new projects that came along.
As we are now half way through the school year I would like say that I am very proud of my team, we designed a few posters for BCITMA events, designed a logo for MA Consulting, and handed out polaroid pics of the team getting pied in the face for charity.
Here are the designs my team came up with for the BCITMA events, all posters were created for print, web, and digital TV. Click on images to view larger:
This was our first success as a team, the final design was created by Beth Ritchie…

This was a collaborated brainstorm as well by the team, which was designed by Beth Ritchie again…

This poster was the funnest of all, we got very creative and the idea came to us in just a few minutes of brainstorming. Wade Oullette designed polaroid looking images from photos the team had created while pieing each other in the face, fun times! Beth Ritchie then created the poster with handwritten font. We then printed each polaroid separetely and put them around campus along with the full posters. This was a huge hit since the students knew who these people were. The Pie-Athalon raised over $250 for charity…

This was the logo that MA Consulting went with, the initial design was created by Beth Ritchie in black. We then looked at it as a team, tried new fonts and colours and desided on the blue with the same font…

This poster was initially drawn by hand by Amanda Wong which I then traced in Adobe Illustrator for our bi-weekly cupcake sale…

This was the last event of the year and was a rush to get out but Wade Ouellette started it and I finished it off in time…

During the summer months as the the VP of Advertising for the BCIT Marketing Association, I was in charge of preparing all advertising and promotional items for the start of the school year in September. I had no committee started yet so I was the lone wolf in this task but enjoyed every minute of creating these designs and working to build the BCITMA brand.
I created new business cards, T-shirts, water bottle labels, a display case background, brochures for the orientation day to hand out at our booth to recruit first year members, a slideshow of last years pics, and advertisements for the upcoming annual BCITMA BBQ which consisted of posters and digital TV displays.
I decided that all these items must be consistant with one another with logos, the website address, and BCITMA’s “Connect. Create. Captivate” slogan in order to build the BCITMA brand. I also gave some tips on creating the BCITMA website including creating a WordPress site that future years can update easily, and designed a cover page for the BCITMA sponsorship package which went out to many business’. Two more posters and TV displays were then created to promote a couple of events seen below including the CIBC Run for the Cure.
I am very happy the way BCITMA started the year, we have signed up more members this year than we set out to, and every board member (11 in total) have put in a great effort into making sure BCITMA is successful this year.
Here are the items I designed for the start of the year for the BCITMA as the only member of the Advertising Committee, click on images to view larger:
After many business card designs (see other designs here), the board members chose this design because of its simplicity and professionalism…

This was the 3-fold brochure I created for the orientation day to recruit first years to the BCITMA, here the is the front and back of the brochure, click image to view larger…

This is the inside of the brochure…

Here is the print poster and the digital TV display I created for the annual BCIT BBQ…

This is the BCITMA T-shirt design and water bottle label design as well as the sponsorship package cover I designed…

These other posters were created by me as well during the first week of the 2010 school year before I got a committee together to help design other advertisements…

I have to say I am loving the creativeness that goes into creating a marketing plan. During this semester at BCIT my team and I created three marketing case studies and an Integrated Marketing Campaign for a company that was celebrating an anniversary, we chose eBay and had a great time creating it.
We had to create a complete integrated marketing approach to tie the advertising, sales promotion, public relations, and direct marketing together. I definitely want to create these IMC plans again in the future!

Michelle Ricketts from Evolve Fitness and Louise Green from Body Exchange, joined forces and are opening a new fitness centre catering towards women called Storm Fitness Inc. in North Vancouver. The grand opening is January 9th 2010.
They asked me to produce their logo which you can see above, I think it turned out well. They wanted a clean looking logo, while incorporating the “O” into a tornado. We then added some swirls and circles at a later date adding some character.
What do you think of the Storm Logo?
Check out some other logos and graphics I have created here.

I am quoted in an article from 2006 on the Star Online website. I was backpacking around South East Asia at the time, I didn’t even know it was an interview! haha funny, I just stumbled upon it today while searching my name on the site, 123peaople.ca. Surprised me, but it brought back some memories for sure.

While staying at the budget Pin Seng Hotel, off Love Lane, they made friends with another couple from Vancouver, Canada, who have been backpacking around Asia Pacific for three years.
Music deejay Travis Bonneteau, 27, and chef Jessilyn Laurel, 26, were in Penang for five days.
“We came to Penang because we knew there is an Indonesian consulate here and we need to get a visa to go to Sumatra, where I can go surfing,” said Bonneteau.
“The people here have been friendly. On the streets, we are greeted with ‘hello’ and ‘welcome’. And it is nice that everyone speaks English, we find it easier to have a conversation here than in Bangkok.”
He said the hotel operator would give suggestions daily on where to go and what to do in George Town, and was helpful with directions to places.
Laurel added that they had also been to the beaches in Batu Ferringhi and the shopping malls, and even caught the latest movie Superman Returns.
After Sumatra and Bali, the couple plan to return to Malaysia to visit Kuala Lumpur, Taman Negara, and the islands on the east coast.
They said they love travelling and meeting people, and that the whole experience has been an adventure.
“Since we started travelling, we have been back to Canada a year ago for two to three weeks, just to say ‘hi’ and ‘bye’,” they said.
“We are on a tight budget. For example, we spend RM1.80 for this place and RM2 to eat,” added Bonneteau.
They have been to Fiji, New Zealand, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand. After Indonesia and Malaysia, they plan to visit India, Nepal, Tibet, Burma, and Laurel’s hometown in the Philippines.

I have been DJing at different events, Night Clubs, Weddings , and Cruise Ships for over 10 years. This is a hobby that will always stay with me as I love music and I love to get people dancing. I do run a mobile DJ company called Good Time DJ’s that mainly plays at weddings and Christmas parties.
I play every type of music depending on the audience, my favorite music is house or any electronic music such as breakbeats or drum ‘n’ bass. Although I do play CD’s and mp3′s, I prefer to play traditional records on my turntables. There is more of a hands on feel to it, as well as a story behind each record as opposed to a CD that can break or scratch instantly.
Here is a demo I produced for a cruise line position, enjoy!

I am a member of the amazing BCIT club, BCITMA. We are a chapter of the AMA, American Marketing Associaton. Also see BCAMA.
I help out any way I can with events or advertising. We currently have a fashion show we are putting on in February, and a 3 part speakers series Connect. Create. Captivate. starting with Sue Clement, How to Network Like a Pro. I helped with the poster (left) by creating the background image for it. Click on the image to view full.
The BCITMA is heading to New Orleans soon to take on the U.S. schools in a case study competition that will feature Unicef.
They are also putting on a networking event, Smoozapalooza along with AIM and The BCIT Alumni. Schmoozapalooza provides a networking opportunity for BCIT Marketing Communications students, past grads, and industry professionals. This will be an incredible event which I hope to be a part of, I just signed up for a volunteer position.

I created a marketing plan for a restauraunt in the lovely Gastown area of Vancouver with my team as a project for my Marketing course I took in March 2009.
It was an intensive project which in the end taught us a lot about preparing a marketing plan for a CEO of a company. We also had to present in front of the class using a PowerPoint presentation that went really well.
We chose this company because it is a really good restaurant with some original ideas, but no one knows they exist because of their lack of marketing. With a little marketing help, this restaurant could obtain a well known restaurant status in Vancouver.
